The Department of Astronomy has a telescope for observing solar prominences, thanks to a donation from the Communitas Foundation in 2018.

14-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain

14-inch (356 mm) Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope with a focal length of 3910 mm — CGE-1400 — Celestron. Secondary mirror — 4.5 inches (114.3 mm). Maximum magnification — 830×. Limiting visual magnitude — 15.3. The telescope is used for demonstrations and training.

6-inch (152 mm) refractor

The 6-inch (152 mm) refractor has a focal length of 2200 mm and an equatorial mount. It was manufactured by “Grubb” and installed on a permanent foundation in the Large dome of the Observatory in 1897. It is the first telescope on a permanent foundation in Bulgaria.
